Stephanie Lepp
Producer & Futurist
When I was in second grade, I had a lunchbox with Bert and Ernie on it. On the lunchbox, Bert was carrying a lunchbox, with Bert and Ernie on it. On that lunchbox, Bert was carrying a lunchbox...and I wondered, how far do the lunchboxes go? Am I in a lunchbox too??
Today, Infinite Lunchbox is my studio for independent socially-engaged media. My work strives to hold up a mirror — inviting us to grow from what we see.
Projects include: Deep Reckonings, a series of explicitly-marked deepfake videos that imagine morally courageous versions of our public figures; Infinite Lunchbox, a YouTube channel offering integral takes on politics and culture; Reckonings, a podcast that tells the stories of people who've made all kinds of transformative change; and Where I'm Coming From, an experience designed to build empathy by speaking other people's perspectives in first person.
I'm a member of the Guild of Future Architects and two-time Webby Awards winner. My work has been covered by outlets such as NPR, Forbes, and the MIT Technology Review, and supported by institutions including the Mozilla Foundation, Sundance Institute, and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
Along with my independent work, I'm the Executive Director at the Institute for Cultural Evolution. Before that, I was the Executive Producer at the Center for Humane Technology.
I speak on the topics of worldview transformation, the relationship between personal and social change, and sense-making in a post-truth world. I've also been fortunate to have been interviewed by many thoughtful people. To hear about what I learned from Reckonings and our human potential for transformation, listen to my conversation with Lauren Schiller on Inflection Point. To hear about Deep Reckonings and the possibility of using our synthetic selves to elicit our better angels, listen to my conversation on The Jim Rutt Show. For broader conversations that span across my work, hear me with Joe Lightfoot on The Lightfoot Podcast, and with Meghan Daum on The Unspeakable Podcast. Find more press here.
